These terms govern your use of Start, a local application that runs on your Mac.
Last updated April 22, 2026
Start is provided on an as-is basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While the application is developed with care, we do not guarantee that it is free of defects or suitable for every workflow. You use it at your own discretion.
Start operates with the API keys and access tokens already present on your machine. You provide them, you own them, and you are responsible for any usage or costs incurred with the provider you have configured.
Keys are stored securely in the macOS Keychain. We do not see them and we do not manage them. If you rotate or revoke a key with your provider, Start will be unable to use it until the corresponding Keychain entry is updated.
Start is a workspace that connects to third-party AI models. It sends your prompts to the model you configure and runs the commands the model asks for on your machine.
Outputs may be incorrect, incomplete, or unexpected. Review changes before committing them, and treat any command the model runs with the same caution you would apply to a script you did not write yourself.
You are responsible for the code the model produces, the commands it runs, and any effects on your system, repositories, or third-party services. Use version control and keep backups.
Use Start only for lawful purposes. The prompts you provide and the commands the model runs on your behalf are attributed to you.
When Start connects to external services such as a Git host or an AI provider, your use of those services is governed by their respective terms. Start acts as a client. Any limits, fees, or rate caps imposed by those services apply to your relationship with them directly.
Start also sends a small set of anonymous product events to PostHog, our analytics provider, as described in the Privacy policy. PostHog processes that data on our behalf under their own terms.
Start is built on top of open-source libraries. Their licenses apply to their respective components, and we acknowledge the contributions of their maintainers.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Start and its maintainers are not liable for lost work, lost data, provider charges, or any other damages arising from your use of the application or from actions performed by a model running within it.
These terms may be updated as the application evolves. Updated terms take effect when published on this page.
